As I prepare for my little girls arrival I feel a deep call to keep getting closer and closer to Yahweh. I think that is so important. It’s one thing to try and governor my own life as a young woman, but now I am stepping into motherhood. This is a whole new ball game.
So I had to ask Holy Spirit, “how can I prepare myself for her.” And His answer was simple. "Know MY heart."
Wow. And when you think about it, the only way to know someones heart is to spend time with them. So that's exactly what I started to do. And remember that you can only teach from what you know, so it is important to press in and seek Him fully. 💗 Lead by example.
So I immediately got out my bible and started to read. I felt in my spirit to start with the book of Ephesians and then after that i'd start at the beginning of the Epistles of Paul. Again, wow. There was so much meat in what I read that it actually humbled me. Why have I not studied these scriptures before??
Every day when I woke up and began to read I'd be filled with new revelation and I could feel His presence around me, strengthening me, giving me confidence. And that is exactly what I want for my daughter. I want her to grow up brave, confident, and secure in not only WHO she is, but most importantly WHO’S she is! And it starts at home.
Proverbs 22:6 says
“Train up a child in the way he should go,
[a]And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
So many children and families today are so lost... It’s as if life gets in the way and we forget about our call. We know of Him, but we don't truly know Him. I know, because I’ve been there many times. It’s easy to forget when you don’t have discipline...
So that brings me to my challenge for you today.
What are 3 things you can start doing in your everyday life that elevates your relationship with God?
Here’s mine:
1. I’ve started my mornings with “quiet time”. This is where I take a moment to just listen. Sometimes Holy Spirit speaks and other times it’s just simply quiet. But the important thing is that we are making time to LISTEN. Opening ourselves up to what Holy Spirit has to say.
2. I read a chapter or two of a book of the Bible I am currently reading. Take time to understand it though. Don’t just read it and be ‘done’. Any one can read... it’s important to dive deep and understand.
3. And lastly, I end my day with gratitudes. Instead of talking to God and asking Him for things, Thank Him. Even if what you are thanking Him for has not yet come into fruition! Giving thanks is an important part of worship!
I know adding 2-3 new disciplines to your everyday life can be challenging, but it is so worth it. At the end of the day, not only are you discovering His heart, but you’ll end up feeling him in every moment! Maybe what you need is different to what I need. It could just so happen that instead of adding something to your life you need to remove something. That's a big one too... but nevertheless, take the time to seek it out and then apply it. It is so important that we as men and women of God glorify Him in our everyday lives. It's time that we start living for Him instead of living for ourselves. And remember, living for Him doesn’t mean you stop being you. Who He created you to be is so beautiful and so needed. What I’ve actually come to realize is that the more you seek Him, the more you find yourself! And trust me, your children will thank you for it.
So I encourage you today to step back into relationship with Him! Press in! Know His heart!
